Investment readiness: meet investors with your company in order
Tokio Business prepares startups and SMEs for an investment process. We review the business model, the numbers, the documentation and the story, and help you identify which type of investor fits your project. The aim is for your company to withstand an investor’s questions before they are asked.

What does an investor check before investing in a company?
| Area | What the investor will ask | What we prepare |
|---|---|---|
| Business model | How does it make money, and why will it grow? | Value proposition, market, unit economics |
| Numbers | Are they reliable and consistent? | Clean historical figures, a forecast with explicit assumptions, capital needs and use of funds |
| Team and governance | Does everything depend on the founder? | Roles and owners, cap table and current shareholders’ agreement, reviewed by your lawyer |
| Documentation | Is everything in order? | Data room index: corporate, contracts, intellectual property, employment and tax, with your advisers |
| Story | Why now, and why you? | Executive summary and investor presentation |
How we work
- 01
Starting point
A Tokio Index completed by management and a review of the documentation. Outcome: a list of what is missing, ranked by how much it would weigh in a negotiation.
- 02
Model and numbers
We put the historical figures in order and build a forecast whose assumptions can be defended one by one.
- 03
Documentation
We prepare the data room index and coordinate with your legal and tax advisers on what needs reviewing or fixing.
- 04
Story
Executive summary, presentation and rehearsal of the hard questions.
- 05
Investor fit
An analysis of which type of investor or funding fits your stage, your sector and what you need.
Which type of investor fits your company?
| Type | What they usually look for | What to bear in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Business angels | Early-stage projects with a team they can trust | Smaller amounts; personal involvement varies |
| Venture capital funds | Fast, scalable growth | They require governance, regular reporting and an exit within a set period |
| Industrial or strategic investor | A fit with their own business | May limit alliances with their competitors |
| Family office | Solid projects with a long horizon | Criteria vary widely from one family to another |
| Bank lending or public loans | Ability to repay | No dilution for shareholders, but requires guarantees or conditions |
Not every company needs an investor. Sometimes the conclusion is to grow with your own cash or with debt, and we will tell you so.
Where we have worked
We prepare companies to enter an investment process at their best: business model, numbers, documentation and story. And we help them identify the type of investor that fits their project.
What we don’t do
- We don’t market your company’s shares.
- We don’t issue formal company valuations. If one is needed, you commission an independent expert.
- We don’t give legal, tax or financial advice: we coordinate with your advisers.
- We don’t guarantee that a round will close, or on what terms.
Frequently asked questions about investment readiness
Will you introduce me to investors?
It depends on each case and is agreed in writing with the client. The service prepares the company and defines which type of investor fits. If agreed, we can also support you in the first contacts.
How long does it take to prepare a company?
It depends on the current state of your numbers and documentation. We will tell you at the end of the first phase.
How much does it cost?
A fixed price per phase, which we give you after a first conversation at no cost.
Is it useful if we are seeking bank finance rather than investors?
Yes. Clean numbers and a defensible forecast are just as useful with a bank or a public body.
Do you work out what my company is worth?
We don’t issue formal valuations. We do review with you the assumptions an investor will use to value it, so you go into the negotiation with sound judgement.
