How do you set up a joint venture in Spain with a foreign partner?

You choose the partner, agree on contributions, control and how results are shared, and formalise it in an agreement, often through a joint company. Some foreign investments in strategic sectors require prior government authorisation: your lawyers will confirm this. Tokio Business finds the partner, prepares the negotiation and supports you through it.

Negotiating across cultures

The partners at Tokio Business have worked for years between Europe, the Americas and Asia. They know that timelines, decision-making and what counts as an agreement differ from one country to the next, and they prepare the negotiation with that in mind.

What we don’t do

We don’t take part in buying shareholdings as a financial investment, or in startup funding rounds on behalf of third parties. The transactions on this page are strategic: the client is looking for a partner or a company for its own business.

Frequently asked questions about corporate transactions

Do I need authorisation to invest in a Spanish company?

In most cases no, but some foreign investments in strategic sectors do. Your lawyers will confirm this before signing.

Joint venture or acquisition?

A joint venture shares risk and control. An acquisition gives full control, but requires more capital and a more thorough review. We weigh it up with you.

How do you find the right partner?

We define the profile with you, search for and screen candidates, and only share your identity when there is mutual interest and a non-disclosure agreement in place.
